Course Overview

This course will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to become a highly competent and skilled carpenter or joiner.

The Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry & Joinery covers;

  • Identifying and ordering appropriate materials
  • Timber partition construction
  • Use of portable and fixed machines
  • Fitting of doors, window frame construction
  • Fitting staircases
  • Fitting kitchen units and worktops
  • Wall panelling
  • Laying floors, traditional and truss roof construction
  • Health and safety/first aid

You will also study towards your Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 1 – if required.

You will gain technical knowledge and practical skills whilst on the course.  You will need to demonstrate that you can apply these new skills and knowledge effectively and you be assessed during practical assignments, unit end tests and online tests. 

Once you have completed the course you will need to gain experience applying your new learning with an employer.  Once you are working on life jobs you could be assessed against the NVQ so that you can gain the full Joinery qualification.   

There are opportunities to progress on to a full Level 2 Apprenticeship once employment within the industry has been gained.  Upon completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship you could move on to an advanced apprenticeship at Level 3 in Joinery.

After gaining work experience in the chosen occupational area there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas.
