Manchester City Council’s Youth Justice team, which includes mentors from The Growth Company Employment, has taken home the top prize in the ‘Youth Justice of the Year Award’ category at the 6th national Shine a Light Awards.
The awards, which took place in London on Thursday 22nd March 2018 put the spotlight on the incredible contributions of teams, schools, settings, young people and individuals across England who champion innovative work and excellent practice in supporting children and young people’s speech, language and communication.
The Youth Justice award is one of 11 categories within these awards, and is open to all organisations and individuals involved in the Youth Justice system in England - be they public, private or voluntary.
The win is the latest achievement for the team, which provides intensive support to help young people in Manchester to deal with their barriers and challenges and enable them to access education, training and employment, and help to divert them from re-offending.
Vanessa O’Dare, Team Manager for the Youth Justice team commented on The Growth Company mentors: “Bev and Theo engage with some of our most vulnerable young people. They help motivate hard-to-reach young people to grow confidence in their ability to develop skills to prepare them for work or training, and seek appropriate opportunities through hands on support”.
“They are passionate about breaking down barriers to engagement, working in close partnership with other professionals”.
