If you’ve been out of education for a while, you may need some help to choose the right course for you, and where to study. There are several places to choose from, including your own home.

Colleges and learning centres

For many people, their local college or adult learning centre provides the best place to study. They usually offer a wide range of courses, which may take place in libraries or community centres in your neighbourhood. You will not only get the chance to improve your skills, you will also be able to meet like-minded people and share the experiences of studying.

You should be able to find details of your local adult learning service on your local council website, or by searching the internet.

University and higher education

Higher education

Flexible and open learning

Many people are opting to study by themselves, through open learning schemes. This usually means using printed materials with on-line studying, often with the help of an on-line tutor. It can be a great alternative for those with busy lifestyles or family commitments which make it difficult to commit to a regular course.
