  • The Growth Company will deliver Trafford In Work alongside Trafford Council to help low-wage workers improve their career prospects, increase their earnings, and secure long-term employment.
  • The service provides support in areas such as training, CV writing, interview preparation, confidence building, and health and wellbeing.
  • It is part of GMCA’s wider efforts to promote economic inclusion and social mobility.

The Growth Company and Trafford Council are set to deliver an innovative new programme in Trafford.

Trafford In Work is designed to help low-wage workers in Greater Manchester improve their career prospects, increase their earnings, and enhance job stability.

The initiative is part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s (GMCA) commitment to economic inclusion and social mobility, aiming to tackle in-work poverty and create a more equitable workforce.

The service offers a wide range of support, including access to training and skills courses, assistance with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation.

It also helps people to build their confidence and boost their motivation, while promoting overall health and wellbeing.

In addition, in-work training courses are available to encourage long-term employment and professional development.

The programme teams are based in local communities and will work closely with participants to identify opportunities and take positive steps forward.

This service is open to anyone aged 18 or over who lives in Trafford and is currently employed, including those on zero hours contracts or in part-time or temporary positions.

The Growth Company’s Managing Director for Employment, Michelle Leeson, said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Trafford Council to deliver Trafford In Work across the borough.

“So many people work hard but still end up struggling to pay the bills. It can be difficult to know what to do to tackle this problem when you’re living from pay check to pay check, which is why it’s so important to make sure that people get the support they need to make a change, whether that's earning more money, increasing their hours, getting a more stable contract, or switching careers.

“We aim to build on the success of other Working Well programmes to match our vision of a Greater Manchester where everyone benefits from economic growth.”

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this service.

“Our aim is to work together to build skills and confidence with residents that will serve them well in their careers for many years to come.”
