  • Pathways to Work is a new programme designed to tackle high rates of economic inactivity and boost employment across nine ‘trailblazer’ regions.
  • The programme aims to help people find, stay in, or return to work, with specific support available for those with health conditions.
  • The Growth Company will deliver Pathways to Work in Sheffield on behalf of Sheffield City Council.

The Growth Company will be part of a pioneering new programme aimed at improving employment outcomes in Sheffield.

Pathways to Work was recently commissioned by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to address high levels of economic inactivity in the UK, particularly among those with health conditions.

The programme aims to help people find or return to work by providing tailored support, including an innovative triage system to more effectively connect participants to employment, health, and skills services.

South Yorkshire is one of nine regions or ‘trailblazers’ that will receive funding to deliver Pathways to Work, with the Growth Company set to deliver the programme in Sheffield on behalf of Sheffield City Council.

Commenting on the news, Growth Company operations manager Amy Lees said: “We are delighted to be part of the Pathways to Work programme.

“As a social enterprise with deep roots in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, we know how important it is for our communities that people who want to work get the opportunity to do so.

“The dedicated employment support offered through Pathways to Work, including support for health conditions, is a crucial step to achieving this goal.

“We’re looking forward to delivering results for the people of Sheffield and contributing to the city’s broader economic prospects and prosperity.”

Economically inactive residents who are aged 16 or over, live in Sheffield, and have the right to live and work in the UK are eligible to join the Pathways to Work.

Keyworkers can also work with unemployed residents who are at risk of social exclusion and would benefit from additional community-based support.

Referrals are invited to opportunity[at]sheffield.gov.uk for triage or can be referred directly to community partners.
