What is CIAG?
Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) supports people in prison to:
- Explore their skills and work experience options
- Think about their goals, both while in prison and after release
- Work through any barriers to learning or finding a job
- Put together a plan to support them when they leave prison
Delivery
The Growth Company delivers CIAG support on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and HM Prison and Probation Service.
We work in 16 prisons across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, and the West Midlands.
This provision includes a partnership with Sodexo at HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
Our CIAG Services
The CIAG service is tailored to each individual in prison, with everyone taking part in a structured programme of support that includes:
- Induction: Participants talk through their current qualifications and work experience. They identify their strengths, look at areas to improve, and create a personal learning plan with short-, medium- and long-term goals.
- Review: People in prison meet regularly with an adviser to look at work and education options, including distance learning.
- Unlocking opportunities: We look at the progress people have made in custody and help them set goals for the future, including planning for release. We can link them with services outside prison, help them explore job and training options, and support them to search and apply for jobs.
- Resettlement: By talking through plans for after release, we help people access support from resettlement partners and local employment services.
