Meet Angel: A Day in the Life of a Growth Company Employment Advisor

But there’s another: our brilliant colleagues. After all, behind every participant success story is a team member who supported them.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be speaking to frontline staff to give you an idea of what their roles entail – starting with Angel, an employment advisor who works with jobseekers in South Yorkshire.

A typical day for an employment advisor in South Yorkshire

Angel’s day starts with a check-in with colleagues. “We’ve got into a nice routine where we meet in the morning after I’ve set up, answered some emails, and caught up with a few jobseekers,” she says.

“I really enjoy this part of our day. It’s a good opportunity to chat through our key tasks and plan them out so we’re all on the same page when it comes to what needs to be done.”

The main thing Angel likes about her role as an employment advisor is that every day is different.

“I could be starting an employment journey with a completely new participant or celebrating a successful job placement for somebody else.

“This morning, for instance, I came in and found a participant I’d been working with for several months has just found work, so I’m starting the day on a high.”

That’s not to say Angel doesn’t face challenges. She told us that “there are high expectations in this role and it’s a fast-paced environment with lots of targets.

“I’m working with a jobseeker who’s had a really tough time and lost his confidence. We’ve been trying to build his confidence back up, and I had a fantastic meeting with him earlier, which makes all the hard work worthwhile.

There are significant admin duties, too, but Angel has found ways to stay on top of them, which she says has really helped.

In the end, though, Angel finds her role incredibly rewarding.

“The team here is second to none,” she concludes. “The support I’ve had since starting has been amazing, and now I’m in a position to pay that forward with newer members of the team.”
